Nigeria's public service watchdog, Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), has announced intention to verify the N48 billion worth of assets declared by the newly inaugurated freshman Governor, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
According to the Oyo state office of the anti-corruption agency, it is awaiting directive from the bureau's headquarters in Abuja before commencing the verification exercise.
Scooper reported how Governor Makinde declared his assets in excess of N48 billion in both cash and other properties on Tuesday, to fulfil one of his campaign promises.
According to the CCB, assets of the officials of the last administration in the state would also be verified.
Mr. Moses Atolagbe, the Bureau's Director in Oyo, revealed this to newsmen on Wednesday.
According to him, there were a few people in the last administration of the state who were yet to comply with asset declaration.
He stated, “We have a few people that have not complied with the position of the law.
“They are very few in number; some of them are out of the country and others are based on health ground.
“They have got in touch with the bureau and one of them showed up on Monday.
“We will just give them a little ample opportunity; when they don’t comply, they would be prosecuted.
“We have done that before, a former commissioner in Oyo State in time past had been prosecuted for failure to comply.”
The 15-year-old governor was the Group Managing Director of Makon Group Limited, an indigenous oil and gas company he founded at the age of 29 in the year 1997. He previously worked with Shell Petroleum Development Company as an engineer.
