The attention of Ogun State Police Command has been drawn to an information circulating on social media with the above heading,  and the case was said to be reported at Enugada police station of which the writer claimed police did not do anything about it.

According to the DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, Police Public Relations Officer, he said in as much as the Command will not like to dignify the write-up with a response, the need to set the record straight prompted this rejoinder.

Also, he said in the said publication, one Fatimah Bakene a muslim sister in full veil was said to be dragged off a motorcycle on June  9,  2019 at Adedotun area by a masquerade popularly called *"Sokkoto"* who also beat up the woman and pull off her veil.

The action of the masquerade according to the writer prompted the victim and her husband to report the matter at Enugada Police station where the writer claimed that the masquerade was only asked to write an undertaken that he will not do so in future.

He said, Nothing can be farther from the truth,  than the claim of the writer of the piece because though the case was reported at  Enugada  by the victim, police investigation revealed that the said woman was neither beaten up nor her veil was pulled off as claimed.

Abimbola said, what actually happened was that the masquerade made a derogatory remark about the woman in veil which infuriated the husband,  hence he reported to the Police.
Upon his report, the leaders of the masquerades were summoned by the police and were mandated to produce the erring masquerade which they did immediately.

But while investigation was going on,  the Muslims leader in the area who accompanied the woman to the station pleaded with the police that they preferred amicable settlement of the case since the masquerades leader have apologised and moreso,  they are all living in the same environment.

Having shown interest in peaceful resolution of the matter, the masquerade was made to undertake never to do such in future and the case was officially withdrawn by the complainant.
It was therefore a thing if surprise seen a total misrepresentation of what actually happened on social media.

He implore members of the public to therefore step down the discountenance and the write up in totality as the writeup is mischievous and capable of causing religious unrest. Social  media should  be used in  disseminating  authentic information and  not falsehood as the end product of social media misused can be disastrous for all.
