INEC has no Server
Have you seen the uneducated and uncoordinated higi-haga( apologising to Obaihagbon) by our friends over reports that INEC claims not to have a server?
A group queries how what sees as an indictment can be a source of comfort for supporters of President Buhari!
Another group has been all over the place with budget allocations, documents and statements with reference to the existence, acquisition and servicing of servers.
Both groups are caught up in the same web of needless, contrived confusion, which should not be if only they pay heed to context and history of a straightforward matter.
To think that this has been explained by many people in times past. But then politics and bitterness can be such distraction and hindrance.
Of course, INEC would have servers, where the voter data generated across the country resides. It is the base upon which the electoral process resides. Each card reader feeds from the system, configured with data for the polling unit for which it is deployed.
Yes, INEC would have server(s) in which the details of the voters reside.
The Server in question in this instance, which Vice President Atiku claims to have accessed is not that of the VOTERS but the VOTES, as electronically transmitted at the time of the election.
Of course, just a bit of common sense should tell anyone there cannot be such a server.
One, the electoral law, as at the time of the election, did not allow for electoral transmission of results.
Two, as anyone who either participated or is familiar in the process would know, the process, apart from the accreditation leg, was manual. Results were manually computed, hand-written in public glare, announced there and then, with copies pasted on the wall and all accredited party agents leaving with signed copies of the results.
These results moved from one collation point to the other until the final stage, where the fully collated results for each state was presented to the public on live Television. At each of those points, party agents armed with advance copies of the results were not only present, they authenticated what was presented by signing.
Of course, nothing could have been or had been previously transmitted to a server residing anywhere. Even if there was such a facility, of what use could that be and what purpose would it have served to transmit one result there and present another one, when all the results were already in the hands of party officials?
INEC National Collation Centre was not operating on the basis of results previously received, it was simply collating results being presented in full public glare, on live Television, as generated from the States. Results were organically generated, bottom-up, from all polling units and all participants in the process have copies of the results, all the way down.
If INEC would want to upload results onto a server, that would be after the process has been concluded and it can only be the same results generated from the units and as has been presented.
It takes a certain grade of foolishness to assume, assert, recalibrate, adumbrate, analyse or prognoaticate on the basis of an uneducated claim that there exists some server somewhere holding some results different from what was presented. What would be the source of the data therein?
To see the higi haga on the part of supposedly educated people, some feigning neutrality, over something so simple is shameful and sad.
