Liverpool are worried the signing of Matthijs de Ligt will cause a rift in the dressing room, according to reports.
The Reds are one of six teams vying for De Ligt, with Barcelona , Paris-Saint Germain and Manchester United all tabling offers for the Ajax star.
De Ligt’s preference is to move to Barcelona, but the La Liga champions are refusing to up their offer to match the proposals of United and PSG.
The Mirror claim Mino Raiola sees Anfield as the ‘ideal’ location for his player, but Liverpool will risk a player revolt if they sign the Dutchman.
De Ligt will demand around £236,000 a week at Anfield, with Liverpool’s top earner Mohamed Salah is on £200,000-a-week contract.
Raiola would like De Ligt to play alongside Netherlands team-mate Virgil van Dijk and Klopp recently asked Liverpool to sign the centre-back.
But if De Ligt joins Liverpool, the club are worried several of their biggest stars will ask for their own wage packets to be improved.
De Ligt is expected to make an announcement on his future next week amid reports Raiola’s transfer ban has been suspended.
Frenkie de Jong, who signed for Barcelona earlier this year, has already urged his former Ajax team-mate to join him in Spain.
‘He has to make his own decisions,’ De Jong said. ‘Of course I would like him to come to Barcelona but we will see what happens. It’s up to him.
‘I don’t know, it’s his decision. You have to ask him about it but I hope he comes to Barca.
‘Of course we talk about it [De Ligt signing for Barcelona]. It’s not up to me to say what he’s going to do or his thoughts.
‘I don’t have an influence on his choice. He has to make it on his own and with his family.’
