Sell substance In Deep Freezer To Ward Off Suspicion
There is no limitation to the extent some Nigerian youths can go in their quest to realize their dreams of being rich. Imagine four young boys and girls, with three of them falling between 20 and 22 years, making a living from being major distributors of Indian Hemp. And knowing full well that the substance, classified as illicit drug and prohibited by law, the four members of the syndicate took to moving around Agbara in Ogun State with the substance in a deep freezer, supplying their customers.
But like the saying, "Everyday is for the thieves, one day is for the owner", having succeeded in beating security agencies for as long as God knows when, their criminal cup of deceit got filled to the brim on Saturday, April 27, 2019.
Their antic was punctured by a special outfit, code-named "Operation Puff Adder", recently launched by the state Commissioner of Police, CP Bashir Makama, in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
The said outfit had embarked on raiding of black spots across the state, in accordance with their job schedule to clampdown on hoodlums and reduce, if possible, eradicate violent crimes like armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism and their likes from the society.
The crack detectives, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Agbara Division, SP Adegbite Omotayo, Crimepuzzle learnt, did not give in to the syndicate's decoy of presenting their wares as soft drinks, as they ordered them to open the freezer for a glimpse, only for the supposed chilled bottles of mineral to turn to weeds, suspected to be Indian Hemp.
The suspects, whose identities were given as Opeyemi Wahab (f), 22y; Kabirat Ahmed (f), 21; Yusuf Rasaki (m), 20 and Saheed Mustapha (m) 32 were promptly apprehended
Confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a press statement said: "On interrogation, they confessed being major distributors of the substance in Agbara area and that, they always use the freezer to distribute it around so as to deceive the security agents and prevent them from arrest".
Meanwhile, Oyeyemi continued, "The Makama has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for discreet investigation. He also warned that sales of illicit drugs, which is a catalyst for crime commission, will not be tolerated in the state any longer".
