NANS President Secures Release of Detained UniLag Students, Calls For Sack of VC

The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comr. Aruna Kadiri, has just secured the unconditional release of the 13 students of UniLag been detained at the Kirikiri Prison on court order.

The detained students were arraigned before a Mobile court at Oshodi tax office following their arrest on March 31 for alleged “riotous invasion” of TVC television station in Lagos, protesting the alleged rustication of one of their students, visually-impaired Lawrence Success, for criticising the institution’s management. According to prosecuting counsel, Effiong Asuquo, the students also invaded the main campus of the University of Lagos, Akoka, and had disrupted normal activities in the institution.

Reacting, the student apex body led by its President paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris, on Tuesday April 04 at the Louis Edet House, Abuja, demanding their unconditional release which the Police boss assured him.

After the courtesy visit, the revolutionary leader of NANS then proceeded to Lagos in solidarity with the hundreds of protesting Nigerian Students demanding the immediate release of their colleagues.

The request was granted today Thursday April 06, just as IGP Idris assured President Kadiri on Tuesday April 04. The 13 students were unconditionally release from detention.

In view of this, The President Kadiri led administration want to seize this opportunity to commend Zone D comrades most especially Lagos axis, IGP Idris, Lagos State Government and all comrades for this victory.

Secondly and most importantly, NANS calls for the immediate sacking of the aforementioned citadel of learning Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rahmon Ade Bello, as he has proven beyond reasonable doubt of his lack of competence to manage the affairs of the school.

We want to assured Nigerian students that our administration is fully committed to the struggle for the greater good of all. Political victimization of students as usual will continuously be viewed by the Kadiri led Administration as a direct confrontation of NANS and a deliberate attempt to test our might.

Our administration is very passionate about the plight of politically victimized students! Wherever they exist, we shall deploy all at our disposal in ensuring their reinstatement. Restoring their rights and liberties is one of our main policy thrust. “An Injury To One Is An Injury To All”.
Viva Aluta!
