ABEOKUTA - Despite the fact that Federal government enbargo on cross border bussines is still in place,a tour of major towns and villages in the ogun west senatorial district of the Gateway state has revealed that it was bussines as usual most especially in the famous illegal exportation of petroleum products.
Our correspondent who visited towns and villages LIKE Ajegunle, Oja Odan,Ajilete,Owde Yewa,Ijoun among others revealed that despite the border closure and massive presence of security Agences smugglers still ferry trailer load of petrol accros the border to the neighbouring Republic of Benin where they make huge profit.
It was also discovered that most of the petrol stations located around the border posts only operates at nights loading the petroleum products inside several 50 littre Jerry cans for onward sales at their neighbouring Benin Republic villages like Igolo and Ifannyin among others.
Probing futher on while this illegal activities still flourish desoite Government ban with presence of Eagle Yeye security Agences he was told by a farmer who preferred to remain anonymous that the Bunkrers have since cane together under one umbrella as an association though not registered button very powerful and highly influential and always operating like mafia.
With this the farmer added,the smugglers were able to settle "oga at the top "and the boys thereby paving the way for easy transportation of petroleum products accros the border especially at night.
At Ijoun and Oja odan where our correspondent spent 2 nights to experience the modus poerandi of the smugglers he discovered there was a "cordial and mutual "agreement between the smugglers and the security Agences especially the custom officers who usually pave the way for easy access the border.
However in other to balance the story our correspondent msde several attempts at having a chat with some of the security Agent's but was rebuffed with unfriendly reactions. The story continues....
