Nasir El-Rufai, Kaduna State Governor, on Monday enrolled six-year-old son Abubakar Al-Siddique as a pupil of Kaduna Capital school, triggering a round of mixed reactions from opposing sections of the public.

The preteen was enrolled as a primary one pupil of the public school.

The controversial governor announced the development Monday via his twiiter handle.

According to the strean of tweets, the governor had in 2017 promised to ensure that Abubakar attended a public school as a way of showing commitment to fixing public education and raising the standard.

“Abubakar Al-Siddique El-Rufai has today enrolled as a Primary One pupil pf Kaduna Capital School,” the tweet read.

“On 28 Dec 2017, Malam Nasir El-Rufai stated that ‘I will by personal example ensure that my son that will be six years of age in 2019 will be enrolled in a public school in Kaduna state,  by God’s grace.

“Reforming the Education sector in Kaduna is a continuing struggle against decades of neglect. But the El-Rufai government has a strong commitment to fix public education and raise the standard of public schools so that private education will become only a luxury.

The development attracted different reactions from commentators on social media. While some commended the governor, others said there was nothing special about enrolling his kid in a public school.

A user, Ogun parrot, said the move by the governor warmed his heart even though he is not a fan. He said the nation will progress if politically exposed persons learn to patronise indigenous products and services.
