An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Yomi Shogunle, on Wednesday, April 17, said that another way of avoiding being killed by Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is not to speak Queens English to police officers.

He said this in a tweet quoting Tunji Disu's video where he was addressing members of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos.

This is coming at a time Nigerians are calling for an end to police brutality following killings of innocent Nigerian youths by trigger-happy officers.

Shogunle is known for making unguarded random statements on twitter. Users of the platform once attacked him for making an insensitive comment on the campaign to end SARS.

In the video Shogunle was referring to, the commander of the RRS, Disu, advised officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos on the need to be good ambassadors of the force.

Legit.ng reported that Disu said that he is very much concerned about the issue of police killings that have been going on around in the country.

Nice one .
Lagos State will be calm if police chiefs in #Lagos do more of this.

The commander said the matter is so worse that he believes his officers should be ashamed of even putting their uniform to go around town. He said that the officers should be careful about the firearms they carry around, that the same arms were purchased for them with the money gotten from the public.

Disu then asked why kill the people who are paying them and whose money financed their arms.

The RSS commander reminded the officers of a very important lesson they were taught in the police academy, that it is better to let robbers escape than kill one innocent person.

He also lamented that a few members of the force are spoiling the image of the police, questioning the need to carry corked guns around people.

Just recently, a 20-year-old lady and a young man with her were both allegedly shot by police officers in Ajegunle area of Lagos.According to reports, the girl died identified as Ada Ifeanyi died as a result of the shooting, while the man, Emmanuel Akomafuwa, sustained grievous injuries and is battling for his life. The incident happened on Saturday, April 13, around 7am.

In another report, a Nigerian football lover identified as Kolade Johnson was killed on Sunday, March 31, after he was hit by a police officer's stray bullet during a raid in Lagos.

Kolade Johnson who was 36 years before his untimely death, was watching the Premier League clash between Liverpool and Tottenham, when the tragic incident happened.

The heartbreaking incident occurred outside a Kingstine-Jo outlet in Mangoro, near the international airport in Ikeja, as police opened fired while trying to arrest a suspect.
