The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ipokia Local Government Branch of Ogun State, has honoured Otunba Bisi Oyedele-Citiside with the prestigious title of Life Patron of Teachers in recognition of his contributions to teachers’ welfare, educational development and support for the teaching community.

The award was presented during the union’s Teachers’ Day celebration held in Ipokia Local Government Area, bringing together teachers, education stakeholders, political leaders, traditional representatives and other distinguished guests to celebrate the contributions of educators to society.

The recognition of Citiside, according to the information made available by Citiside Media Frontliners, underscores the importance of individuals and stakeholders who support the teaching profession and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of education.

The honour also reflects the confidence reposed in him by the local teachers’ union, particularly in relation to his stated commitment to the welfare of teachers and the advancement of education in Ipokia.

Among the dignitaries present at the celebration were the Chairman of Ipokia Local Government, Hon. Johnson Akohomeh Avoseh, and Dr. Oluwatoyin Emmanuel Taiwo, the immediate past Chief of Staff to the Ogun State Governor and APC candidate for the Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election.

Their presence, alongside other stakeholders, added significance to the occasion, which provided an opportunity to acknowledge the role of teachers in shaping the future of children and contributing to community development.

Citiside pledges continued support

Speaking after receiving the award, Otunba Bisi Oyedele-Citiside expressed appreciation to the leadership of the NUT, Ipokia Local Government Branch, and the entire teaching community for considering him worthy of the recognition.

He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives designed to promote teachers’ welfare, strengthen educational development and improve the standard of education in Ipokia Local Government.

His acceptance of the honour further highlighted the need for sustained collaboration between education stakeholders, community leaders, government representatives and other well-meaning individuals in addressing challenges facing the education sector.

Teachers remain central to the development of every society, equipping children and young people with the knowledge, skills and values needed to contribute meaningfully to national development. Recognising their contributions, therefore, remains an important part of encouraging professional dedication and strengthening public appreciation for the teaching profession.

The NUT’s recognition of Citiside also drew attention to the value of partnerships that support the educational community and create opportunities for constructive engagement on teachers’ welfare and the quality of learning in local communities.

Celebrating commitment to education

The Teachers’ Day celebration in Ipokia served not only as an occasion to honour an individual but also as a reminder of the importance of investing in teachers and creating an environment in which educators can perform their duties effectively.

The welfare of teachers, access to quality learning resources and sustained support for schools remain important considerations in efforts to improve educational outcomes. Collaboration among teachers’ unions, public officials, community leaders and private individuals can help strengthen such efforts.

For Citiside, the Life Patron of Teachers award represents a formal recognition by the Ipokia teachers’ union and a call to sustain engagement with initiatives that advance the interests of educators and learners.
