Stakeholders demand vigilance, faster information sharing as NDLEA unveils drug rehabilitation centre
SAGAMU, OGUN STATE — Sagamu Local Government has intensified its efforts to maintain peace and protect lives and property with the holding of an expanded Peace and Security Meeting involving security agencies, traditional rulers, religious organisations, youth groups and other critical stakeholders.
The meeting, held at the Conference Room within the Office of the Executive Chairman, Sagamu Local Government, focused on reviewing the security situation across the various jurisdictions and strengthening collaboration among stakeholders to prevent threats and respond promptly to emerging security concerns.
The meeting was presided over by the Vice Chairman of the Local Government, Comrade Isiaka Salami, who represented the Executive Chairman, Ogbeni Jubril Olasile Odulate (AFO), who was unavoidably absent.
Among those in attendance were the Local Government Head of Administration (HOLGA), Mrs. Temitope Ejide; the Director-General, Special Adviser (DGSA), representatives of various security agencies, the Chairman of the Security Committee of the Remo Traditional Council, the Elepe of Epe, represented by Oba Musiliu O. Soile, the Radanuwa of Idado, as well as representatives of religious organisations and youth bodies.
No Major Security Incident Recorded
During the meeting, stakeholders reviewed the security situation across the different areas under Sagamu Local Government and examined challenges peculiar to each jurisdiction.
It was reported that no serious security incident had been recorded during the period under review, while concerns raised during the previous security meeting had also been addressed.
Despite the relatively peaceful situation, stakeholders stressed that residents and security agencies must not become complacent, noting that sustained vigilance and timely information sharing remain essential to preventing criminal activities.
Participants urged residents to promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities to the appropriate security agencies.
The meeting reinforced the public safety message: “See something, say something.”
Security Agencies to Improve Information Sharing
A major issue discussed at the meeting was the need for stronger cooperation and unhindered communication among security agencies operating within the Local Government.
Stakeholders agreed that faster exchange of credible information would assist security personnel in responding more effectively to emerging threats.
As part of the measures, relevant contact details are expected to be shared among the various security agencies, while a WhatsApp communication platform will be created to facilitate rapid information sharing and coordination.
The initiative is expected to improve communication between agencies and enable stakeholders to respond more quickly whenever security concerns arise.
NDLEA Unveils Drug Counselling and Rehabilitation Centre
The meeting also featured an important update from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) concerning efforts to address drug abuse in the area.
The NDLEA representative informed participants that a Counselling, Treatment and Rehabilitation (CTR) Centre is now available in Sagamu.
The facility is expected to provide counselling, treatment and rehabilitation services to persons affected by drug use and abuse, thereby complementing enforcement efforts with rehabilitation and support for affected individuals.
Stakeholders were encouraged to make appropriate use of the facility and support initiatives aimed at reducing drug-related problems within communities.
Traffic Management Gets Attention
The expanded security meeting also considered traffic management within the Local Government, particularly the enforcement of one-way traffic regulations.
Participants stressed the importance of ensuring compliance with traffic regulations to improve the free flow of vehicles, reduce avoidable congestion and enhance safety for motorists, commuters and other road users.
The meeting called for sustained enforcement and public awareness to encourage residents and road users to comply with approved traffic regulations.
Vice Chairman Commends Security Agencies
Speaking during the meeting, Vice Chairman Comrade Isiaka Salami appreciated the various security agencies for their continued efforts and round-the-clock services in safeguarding lives and property across Sagamu Local Government.
He acknowledged the critical role played by security personnel and other stakeholders in maintaining the relatively peaceful atmosphere in the Local Government.
Salami urged all security agencies to sustain their collaborative approach and continue working closely with traditional institutions, community leaders, religious bodies, youth organisations and residents.
He emphasised that maintaining peace and security should not be regarded as the responsibility of security agencies alone, but as a collective responsibility requiring the active participation of all residents.
Stakeholders Urged to Remain Vigilant
The Vice Chairman further called on stakeholders to remain vigilant within their respective jurisdictions and ensure that relevant information is communicated promptly to the appropriate authorities.
He stressed that early reporting of suspicious activities could help security agencies prevent incidents before they escalate.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by Sagamu Local Government and participating stakeholders to strengthen cooperation, improve information sharing and support initiatives aimed at sustaining peace, security and public order across the Local Government.
The Sagamu Local Government administration reaffirmed its commitment to supporting effective collaboration among security agencies, traditional institutions, community stakeholders, religious organisations and youth groups in the collective effort to keep the Local Government safe and peaceful.
