The Nigerian Embassy in Qatar has announced a major improvement in passport services, reducing processing time for renewals and new issuances to about two weeks.
The development follows a 10-day passport intervention exercise held in Doha between August 11 and 21, 2026, during which the mission processed 751 applications, 441 for five-year passports and 310 for 10-year passports.
Distribution of the completed passports began on September 18, less than a month after biometric capture, marking a significant departure from the longer timelines typical of diplomatic processing.
Nigeria’s Ambassador to Qatar, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, described the initiative as a milestone in service delivery.
“The fact that passports are now being completed and returned within about two weeks of capture demonstrates our commitment to improving service delivery and responding to the needs of our community,” he said.
The embassy explained that the faster turnaround was introduced to meet rising demand from Nigeria’s growing expatriate population in the Gulf state.
Valid passports, Yakubu noted, are essential for international travel, employment, and residency status.By accelerating production and distribution, the mission has eased the waiting period for Nigerians in Qatar, ensuring quicker access to vital travel documents.
The embassy emphasized that the initiative reflects its broader focus on enhancing consular services for citizens abroad.
