Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has sharply criticised Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, for endorsing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid less than 24 hours after securing victory in the governorship election.
In a post shared on his official X account on Monday, August 17, 2026, Sowore condemned the endorsement, pointing to the violence that marred the polls.
He alleged that nearly 50 people lost their lives in the unrest before and during the election, questioning why political leaders had failed to address the tragedy.
“These evil people had to sacrifice close to 50 lives in violence before and during the Osun election, all just to prove that ‘agreement is agreement,’' Sowore wrote.
He further criticised Adeleke’s decision, claiming it was based solely on ethnic loyalty, as both he and Tinubu are Yoruba. “It took him less than 24 hours after INEC declared him the winner to prove that. He had to announce support for Tinubu’s re-election because Tinubu is a Yoruba man,” Sowore added.
The activist demanded accountability, asking: “Who killed them? Who ordered or enabled the violence? Who is investigating their deaths? Where is the justice for their families?”Sowore concluded his remarks by branding the political actors involved as “wicked people.”
