ABEOKUTA — The Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has officialized the school calendar for the 2026/2027 academic session, approving a 181-actual teaching day schedule across primary, secondary, and technical institutions statewide.
The notification, issued under reference PL. 100/Vol.III/56 and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. O.M. Oloko, directs all state education authorities, school heads, union bodies, and private school proprietors to ensure strict adherence to the calendar.
Breakdown of Academic Terms
According to details released by the Department of Educational Planning, Research and Statistics, signed by the Director of Education, Mr. W. O. Adewale, students across Ogun State will undergo a structured 39-week academic journey spread evenly across three terms:
First Term: Academic activities kick off on Monday, September 14, 2026, and run through December 11, 2026. A three-week holiday break will follow, ending on January 1, 2027.
Second Term: Resumption is set for Monday, January 4, 2027, spanning 13 school weeks until April 2, 2027.
Third Term: The final term begins on April 26, 2027, concluding on July 23, 2027.
Key Examination Dates and Observances
The schedule outlines major national and international examination windows along with civic observances:
WASSCE & NECO: The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is slated between April and June 2027, while the NECO SSCE will run from June to July 2027.
BECE: Basic Education Certificate Examinations are scheduled for June 21 to June 28, 2027.
Placement Tests: Placement of Primary 6 completers into public and private JSS begins on August 9, 2027, with screening tests for Flagship Schools taking place on August 28, 2027.
The Ministry emphasized that all academic dates remain subject to slight adjustments, directing all educational stakeholders to give the approved calendar immediate and wide publicity.
