The Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has commenced a screening exercise and Computer-Based Test (CBT) for 564 senior teachers and zonal secretaries seeking appointment as principals and vice-principals in public secondary schools across the state.

The two-day exercise, held at Baptist Boys High School, Saje, Abeokuta, is part of efforts to strengthen school leadership and ensure that qualified officers are selected on merit.

Speaking during the exercise on Monday, TESCOM Chairman, Abiodun Sanyaolu, said the selection process was designed for eligible officers on Grade Levels 16 and 17.

According to him, 250 candidates were shortlisted for the position of principal, while 314 others are being considered for appointment as vice-principals.

Sanyaolu urged the candidates to conduct themselves responsibly, noting that their performance would play a significant role in determining their eventual postings.

He said the CBT would assess candidates’ knowledge of educational policies, school administration, curriculum planning, financial management and staff supervision.

The TESCOM chairman stressed that the exercise was part of the commission’s broader efforts to improve the quality of leadership in Ogun State schools.

“TESCOM is not resting on its oars in raising the standard of school leadership. This process will directly impact the quality of teaching and learning, as well as the overall standard of education in Ogun State,” he said.

In their goodwill messages, the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Comrade Felix Agbesanwa, and the President of the All Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Mr Adeniyi Adekoya, commended the state government for what they described as a transparent selection process.

They also applauded the government’s commitment to improving educational standards and strengthening leadership across public secondary schools.

Some of the candidates expressed satisfaction with being shortlisted for the exercise.

Mrs Mosurat Salami of Salau Abiola Comprehensive High School, Osiele, and Mr Kolawole Oluajo, Zonal Secretary for Ipokia Local Government, said they were pleased to have been given the opportunity and pledged to justify the confidence placed in them if appointed as school heads.
