
Rivers State University has officially launched its Digital Transformation Initiative, reaffirming its commitment to building a connected, smart campus that will enhance teaching, learning, research, administration and service delivery through innovative technology.
Speaking at the launch ceremony held at the University Senate Chamber, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Isaac Zeb-obipi, described the initiative as a defining moment in the history of the institution, noting that the university is positioning itself to lead the future of higher education in Nigeria through digital innovation.
Professor Zeb-Obipi said the initiative, with the theme “Digital Transformation for Excellence and Inclusive Service,” represents more than the deployment of new technologies, but a strategic commitment to innovation, accessibility, efficiency and academic excellence.
He further announced that the university would commence mandatory ICT training and capacity development programmes for all members of staff to ensure the effective adoption and utilization of the digital platforms.
Professor Zeb-Obipi also appreciated Cinfores Limited for its partnership and technical support, emphasizing that collaboration between academia and industry remains essential for sustainable institutional development.
The Vice-Chancellor stated that with the deployment of the digital solutions, Rivers State University is unlocking new opportunities for innovation, improving access to quality education, strengthening institutional efficiency and creating a more responsive learning environment for both staff and students.
In his goodwill message, former Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Barineme Fakae, commended the present administration for advancing the digital vision initiated during his tenure. He noted that what began years ago as the university’s “e-Varsity” vision has now evolved into a comprehensive digital ecosystem capable of transforming every aspect of university administration and academic delivery.
Also speaking, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Professor Blessing Jaja, described the Digital Transformation Initiative as a strategic step towards institutional excellence. He commended the Vice-Chancellor’s visionary leadership, noting that the initiative would strengthen administrative efficiency, improve service delivery and position Rivers State University as a model for digital innovation in higher education.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Acting Registrar, Dr. Idanyingi Daminabo, described the launch as a significant milestone in the university’s journey towards academic excellence, administrative efficiency and institutional relevance. She noted that the occasion was not merely ceremonial but signified the beginning of a strategic transition into a new era of digital transformation.
In his remarks, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Cinfores, Mr. Ibifuro Asawo, expressed his appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and the University for entrusting his team with the opportunity to provide the digital solutions.
The National President of the Alumni Association, Lady P. Berezi, and the President of the Student Union Government, represented by the President of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Douglas Douglas, commended the initiative, describing it as a significant step toward enhancing the University’s digital transformation and improving service delivery for students, staff, alumni and other stakeholders.
