Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has congratulated Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji on his re-election, describing the victory as a strong endorsement of his leadership and governance record.

Bamidele, who served as Chairman of the APC Governorship Election Campaign Council in Ekiti State, said Oyebanji’s renewed mandate will ensure continuity of impactful projects and accelerate development across the state. He described the outcome as “a signpost for a better, brighter and greater Ekiti.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oyebanji winner of the June 20, 2026 governorship election after he polled 319,224 votes.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dr. Wole Oluyede, scored 40,543 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Dare Bejide, received 12,872 votes.

In a statement issued by his Directorate of Media and Public Affairs on Sunday, Bamidele praised Oyebanji for fostering peace, unity, and stability in the state.

He noted that the governor has transformed Ekiti’s political landscape from one marked by division and hostility to one defined by cooperation and synergy.

The Senate Leader highlighted Oyebanji’s success in uniting political leaders and stakeholders across party lines, including building strong relationships with former governors and other influential figures, a rare achievement in Nigeria’s political environment.

“Oyebanji made history in Ekiti State as the first governor to be re-elected back-to-back since 1999,” Bamidele said, attributing the feat to his inclusive approach to governance and ability to unite stakeholders.

He expressed confidence that the second term would consolidate ongoing reforms, deepen development initiatives, and position Ekiti as a model of good governance and political stability.

Bamidele also commended the people of Ekiti for their peaceful conduct during the election and thanked the national and state leadership of the APC for their support.
