SAGAMU — As preparations intensify for the forthcoming general government elections, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peaceful, free, fair, and credible polls through sustained stakeholder engagement and voter education across the country.
To this end, the Ogun State chapter of the Agency paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Ogbeni Jubril Olasile Odulate, as part of its ongoing consultations with critical stakeholders ahead of the elections.
The delegation was led by the Ogun State Coordinator of the NOA, Alhaja Tiamiyu Abolanle Aishat, who explained that the visit formed part of the Agency’s strategic efforts to assess the level of preparedness within local government areas and strengthen collaboration with key actors in the electoral process.
According to her, the engagement was designed to enhance public awareness on the importance of peaceful participation in the electoral process while encouraging all stakeholders to work collectively towards ensuring transparent and credible elections.
Alhaja Aishat emphasized the crucial role of local government authorities, community leaders, security agencies, civil society organizations, and residents in fostering an atmosphere conducive to peaceful elections. She noted that voter education and civic responsibility remain essential pillars for the success of any democratic process.
The Executive Chairman, Ogbeni Odulate, was represented during the meeting by the Vice Chairman, Comrade Alhaji Isiaka Salami, who received the delegation alongside members of the local government management team.
Speaking on behalf of the Chairman, Salami expressed confidence in the preparedness of the Sagamu Local Government administration to support efforts aimed at ensuring a smooth electoral process. He commended the National Orientation Agency for its proactive approach in engaging stakeholders and promoting civic enlightenment ahead of the elections.
The Vice Chairman further stated that the local government, security agencies, traditional institutions, and residents of Sagamu were fully committed to collaborating with relevant bodies to guarantee peace, order, and credibility throughout the electoral period.
He stressed the need for continuous sensitization of the electorate, urging citizens to embrace peaceful conduct, shun violence, and uphold democratic values before, during, and after the elections.
The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing voter education, strengthening democratic institutions, and fostering a peaceful electoral environment across Sagamu Local Government.
Observers noted that such engagements are critical in building public confidence in the electoral process and ensuring that citizens are adequately informed about their rights and responsibilities as active participants in democracy.
