A coalition of ex-service personnel under the banner of Ogun State Veterans for YAYI has formally endorsed Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as their preferred candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, signaling an early consolidation of political support ahead of the polls.
The endorsement, announced on May 6, 2026, drew participation from veterans across the state, reflecting what organizers described as a unified decision following extensive consultations in all 20 local government areas of Ogun State.
Speaking at the event, Veteran Aretola Nathaniel, a member of the Board of Trustees, commended members for their turnout and collective resolve to support the senator. He emphasized the importance of unity among veterans in shaping the political future of the state.
Also addressing the gathering, Engr. Adekunle Adesina, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Ogun Veterans for YAYI 2027 and a member of the Ogun State Governor’s Advisory Council, praised the group’s transition from military to civic engagement. He urged members to uphold the values of honesty, discipline, and perseverance in their political participation.
The senator, who was unavoidably absent, was represented by Fasiu Ajadi. In his remarks, Ajadi lauded the veterans for what he described as a patriotic decision to remain active in national development even after their years of military service. He encouraged them to mobilize support at the grassroots level by ensuring members obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate fully in the electoral process.
Delivering the keynote address, the convener of the group, Akeem Ayodeji Agboke, outlined the rationale behind the endorsement. Agboke, a professor of Pharmaceutical Microbiology with roots in a military family, said the decision followed wide consultations and careful consideration of leadership qualities.
He described Senator Adeola as “a unifying leader” whose influence spans Ogun State, Lagos, and the broader Nigerian polity. According to him, Adeola’s role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation demonstrates competence, vision, and commitment to inclusive development—qualities the veterans deem essential for governance.
“The Veterans for YAYI declare our unreserved support for him as the next Governor of Ogun State,” Agboke stated. “We believe his leadership will sustain good governance and ensure that no community is left behind.”
The group also expressed gratitude to traditional and community leaders for their guidance, including Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, the Olu of Ilaro and Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, acknowledging his role in fostering unity and leadership within the state.
The endorsement marks a significant political development in Ogun State’s evolving landscape, as stakeholders begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections. Observers note that the involvement of organized veteran groups could influence grassroots mobilization and voter engagement in the coming months.
With this declaration, the Ogun State Veterans for YAYI have joined the growing list of groups aligning behind Senator Adeola, setting the stage for what is expected to be a closely watched gubernatorial race.
