The federal high court in Abuja has granted bail to Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna, in the case pertaining to alleged access to a telephone conversation involving Nuhu Ribadu, national security adviser (NSA).
Joyce Abdulmalik, the trial judge, on Monday, granted el-Rufai bail in the sum of N100 million with one surety in like sum.
Abdulmalik ruled that the surety must reside in either Maitama or Asokoro districts of Abuja and must deposit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property at the court registry.
In April, the ex-minister was arraigned on a five-count amended charge over the alleged unauthorised access to a telephone conversation involving Ribadu.
He had pleaded not guilty to all counts.

THE BAIL CONDITIONS
The judge added that the surety should be a federal civil servant not below grade level 17 and must provide evidence of salary payments for at least three months.
She ordered that the evidence must be authenticated by a letter from the manager of the bank within the jurisdiction of the court.
Abdulmalik further ordered the surety to depose an affidavit of means, enter into a bail bond and submit a recent passport photograph to the court registry.
She directed that a verification letter from the surety’s immediate department be submitted alongside a tax clearance certificate covering the last six months.
Abdulmalik equally ordered el-Rufai to deposit all his valid international passports with the court registrar.
The judge asked the former governor to report to the headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS) every last Friday of the month by 10am to sign an attendance register pending the determination of the case.
She asked el-Rufai to submit a letter of attestation from the chairman of the Kaduna traditional council.
The judge warned that failure to comply would lead to an automatic revocation of the bail.
Abdulmalik ordered an accelerated trial and adjourned the commencement of trial to later on Monday.

In February, during an interview on ‘Prime Time’, an Arise Television programme, el-Rufai said “someone wiretapped” Ribadu’s phone, allowing him to listen to the NSA instructing security operatives to effect his arrest.
