The ruling All Progressives Congress has postponed its House of Representatives primary election for the 2027 General Elections to Saturday, May 16, 2026, while retaining previously announced dates for all other categories of primaries.
The party disclosed this in a press statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
According to the statement, the House of Representatives primaries, earlier scheduled for an earlier date, were shifted to allow for better coordination and smooth conduct of the exercise across the country.
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) announces the postponement of the House of Representatives Primary Election for the 2027 General Elections to Saturday, 16th May, 2026,” the statement read.
The party, however, clarified that the timetable for the Senate, State Houses of Assembly, Governorship and Presidential primaries remains unchanged.
Under the revised schedule released by the party, the House of Representatives primaries will now hold on Saturday, May 16, followed by the Senate primaries on Monday, May 18.
The State Houses of Assembly primaries are scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, while governorship aspirants will contest for party tickets on Thursday, May 21.
The presidential primary election of the party is expected to take place on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
Political observers believe the slight adjustment in the timetable may be part of efforts by the party leadership to address logistical concerns and ensure seamless conduct of the nationwide exercise ahead of the 2027 polls.
The APC, Nigeria’s governing party, is expected to witness intense contests in several states as aspirants jostle for tickets into the National Assembly, governorship seats and the presidency.
Party stakeholders and aspirants have since been urged to comply strictly with the updated timetable and guidelines issued by the party leadership.
