ABEOKUTA, Ogun State — The Ogun State Police Command has firmly rejected allegations of professional misconduct contained in a petition circulated by civil society groups, insisting that its handling of a high-profile rape case in Ijebu Ode followed due process and upheld the rights and dignity of the victim.
The petition, titled “Urgent Petition to All Well-Meaning Nigerians,” was jointly submitted by the Safer Society for Children Foundation and the Elegant Nurses Forum on March 22, 2026. It accused the police of failing in their duty to protect the victim and allegedly exposing her to further harm and humiliation during the investigation.
Responding in an official statement issued in Abeokuta, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, maintained that the Command conducted a thorough and professional investigation into the case at every stage.
According to the statement, the suspects — Kalu Prosper, Oche Destiny, Adamu Paul, and Adewusi Qudus — have been formally charged to court, with the judiciary now handling proceedings to ensure justice is served.
“The Ogun State Police Command assures the public that at no point was the victim compromised,” the statement read. “All necessary investigative procedures, including medical examinations, evidence gathering, and proper documentation, were strictly followed in line with established protocols.”
The Command emphasized that its officers prioritized the safety, dignity, and rights of the victim throughout the process, directly countering claims made by the petitioners.
However, in a move aimed at reinforcing public confidence, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State has ordered an internal review of the allegations raised in the petition. Authorities say the inquiry will examine any verifiable claims of misconduct and ensure accountability where necessary.
“The Command remains open to credible information and will act decisively if any breach of duty is established,” Babaseyi added, underscoring the police’s commitment to transparency.
