At a pivotal moment in the life of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mao Ohuabunwa, has urged party leaders and stakeholders to embrace unity, fairness, and collective responsibility as the party prepares for its next phase.
Speaking at the 107th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, Ohuabunwa delivered a strong message centered on reconciliation, internal democracy, and strategic reform, emphasizing that the decisions taken now will shape the party’s future and its readiness for upcoming political contests.
Addressing party leaders, governors, elders, and delegates, Ohuabunwa described the gathering as “a very critical moment” that demands wisdom, restraint, and a commitment to the greater good. He commended the leadership for successfully conducting the ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses, noting that these exercises reaffirm the PDP’s democratic credentials.
A major highlight of his speech was the ongoing electronic registration of members, which he described as a “significant step in the right direction.” According to him, the e-registration initiative demonstrates the party’s commitment to modernization, transparency, and credibility.
“A credible membership register is the foundation of any serious political organization,” Ohuabunwa said, urging members nationwide to actively participate in the process to strengthen internal democracy and improve planning.
As the party moves closer to its National Convention, Ohuabunwa stressed the importance of unity and compromise, particularly on sensitive issues such as zoning. He called on members of the NEC to approach the recommendations of the Zoning Committee with an open mind, guided by equity, justice, and the overall interest of the party.
“No arrangement is perfect,” he noted, “but what matters most is our willingness to accommodate one another for the greater good.”
The BoT chairman reminded members that the PDP’s strength has always been its ability to manage differences and emerge stronger. He warned against allowing personal ambitions and sectional interests to overshadow the party’s stability and cohesion.
With Nigerians and party faithful closely watching developments, Ohuabunwa emphasized the high expectations placed on the PDP, urging leaders not to disappoint.
In a call for renewed unity, he appealed to members to remain guided by patience and a shared commitment to the party’s ideals. He also acknowledged the leadership roles of key figures, including Nyesom Wike, Mohammed Abdulrahman, and Samuel Anyanwu, emphasizing the need to rally behind a common vision.
Ohuabunwa concluded with a message of hope and determination, affirming that the PDP remains strong and united despite its challenges.
“The PDP will remain strong. The PDP will remain united. And together, we shall move forward,” he declared.
