Abeokuta witnessed another significant moment in its rich traditional history as Olanrewaju Ayodeji Oyegbola-Sodipo, Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, was formally installed as the Otun Asoludero of Egbaland.

The prestigious chieftaincy title was conferred by His Royal Majesty, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the Alake of Egbaland, during a dignified ceremony attended by traditional rulers, political figures, and prominent sons and daughters of Egbaland.

The installation marks a historic and deeply symbolic milestone for Oyegbola-Sodipo, further cementing his role not only as a political leader but also as a custodian of culture and tradition within Abeokuta and the broader Ogun State.

Speaking shortly after his installation, the newly installed Otun Asoludero described the honour as both humbling and profoundly significant. He noted that the title represents a clear affirmation of his identity as a proud son of Egbaland and a recognition of his commitment to the unity, growth, and development of the people.

“This revered honour is not just a privilege, but a responsibility,” he said. “It is a call to greater service and a reminder of my duty to contribute meaningfully to the progress of our land.”

Oyegbola-Sodipo emphasized that the recognition comes at a critical time in his public service career, reinforcing his resolve to deliver impactful governance at the grassroots level. As Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, he pledged to continue championing development initiatives, fostering unity, and creating opportunities for the people.

He further described the title Asoludero as one that embodies service, leadership, and transformation, adding that he is committed to living up to its ideals by acting as a catalyst for development and a bridge for progress across communities.

Observers say the conferment reflects growing acknowledgment of his contributions to governance and community development, particularly in infrastructure, youth empowerment, and public service delivery.

The ceremony itself was steeped in tradition, featuring cultural displays, royal rites, and expressions of goodwill from dignitaries who lauded the new chief’s leadership qualities and dedication to service.

The Alake, in his remarks, charged the new Otun Asoludero to uphold the values of integrity, humility, and service that the title represents, while continuing to work for the advancement of Egbaland.

As celebrations continue across the region, many residents have expressed optimism that the new title will further inspire Oyegbola-Sodipo to deepen his impact and strengthen the bond between traditional institutions and modern governance.

With the symbolic declaration “Ilu Ègba Oni Baje” (Egbaland shall never be destroyed), the installation signals not only a personal milestone but also a renewed commitment to the enduring legacy, unity, and prosperity of Egbaland.
