The Sagamu Local Government in Ogun State has issued a stern warning to members of the public against purchasing or occupying portions of a State-owned rubber plantation located beside the Ogun State Low-Cost Housing Estate along the Sagamu–Ikenne Road, near the NYSC Orientation Camp.
The warning follows reports of ongoing unauthorized sales and illegal occupation of the land by individuals allegedly posing as agents and selling plots to unsuspecting buyers. According to the local government authorities, some individuals have already commenced fencing and other forms of development on sections of the property.
In an official statement released by the management of Sagamu Local Government, officials disclosed that they carried out an on-the-spot assessment of the area after receiving credible intelligence about the fraudulent activities. The visit confirmed that illegal transactions and encroachment were taking place on the land.
Authorities clarified that the property in question belongs to the Ogun State Government and has been earmarked for the development of the proposed New Sagamu Government Reserved Area (GRA). They stressed that the government has not authorized any form of sale, allocation, lease, or transfer of the land to private individuals or groups.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the said land is government property and has been officially designated for public development. Any person or group claiming ownership or selling plots within the area is acting illegally,” the statement read.
The local government cautioned prospective buyers and investors to avoid engaging in any transactions related to the land, describing such dealings as fraudulent and invalid. It also warned that anyone found encroaching on, fencing, developing, or transacting on the property would face arrest and prosecution in accordance with the law.
Officials emphasized that the move is part of ongoing efforts to protect public assets and prevent residents from falling victim to land scams, which have become increasingly common in fast-developing areas.
Sagamu Local Government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding government property and ensuring that development within the area follows due process and legal guidelines. Residents and property seekers were urged to verify land ownership through appropriate government channels before entering into any transaction.
The management also called on community leaders and residents to report suspicious land dealings to relevant authorities to curb further illegal activities.
