The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two additional suspects in connection with an ongoing investigation into a criminal syndicate linked to armed robbery, conspiracy, and the hijacking of a cement-laden trailer.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspects, identified as John Seun, 24, also known as “Dagrin,” and Olanipekun Ezekiel, 35, alias “Sharply,” were apprehended following sustained intelligence and investigative operations by officers tracking the activities of the gang.
According to the Command, the arrests are part of a broader effort to dismantle a network believed to be responsible for several criminal incidents across parts of the state. Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects played active roles in the hijacking of a trailer transporting 900 bags of cement. During the operation, the driver was reportedly overpowered and restrained, while the consignment was diverted and delivered to a buyer connected to the syndicate.
Police spokespersons said the arrests were made after weeks of coordinated surveillance and interrogation of earlier suspects in custody. Investigators were able to trace communication patterns and logistics arrangements that allegedly linked the two men to the crime.
During questioning, the suspects are said to have provided information about the structure of the group and its operations. Investigators also disclosed that the suspects admitted involvement in other serious crimes carried out by the syndicate during past operations. Authorities, however, emphasized that all confessional statements and evidence will be subjected to due legal processes as the investigation progresses.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police reiterated the Command’s commitment to public safety, stating that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest other fleeing members of the gang. He urged residents to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activities to security agencies, noting that community cooperation has been vital in recent breakthroughs.
“This Command will continue to pursue all individuals involved in criminal networks operating within our jurisdiction. We are determined to ensure that those responsible for violent and economic crimes are brought to justice,” the police chief said.
The suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations. Authorities also confirmed that efforts are being made to recover the diverted cement consignment and identify other possible victims linked to the syndicate’s operations.
Residents and transport operators in the area have welcomed the arrests, expressing hope that the development will deter similar incidents and improve security on major transport routes across Ogun State.
