Abeokuta, Ogun State – Renowned broadcaster, Makinde Fasunle, is set to expand the media landscape in Ogun State with the launch of a new radio station in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Fasunle, popularly regarded as an ace broadcaster for his years of dedication to journalism and community reporting, disclosed that the initiative was born out of his deep passion for broadcasting and commitment to societal development. The radio station, currently under construction at the Ijeun Titun area of Abeokuta, is expected to commence operations soon.
Speaking on the project, Fasunle described the forthcoming station as a platform designed to serve the people by promoting accountability, exposing wrongdoing, and strengthening collaboration between the media and security agencies. Although he declined to reveal the name of the station for privacy reasons, he assured residents that it would stand as a voice for truth and justice.
“The vision is rooted in my passion for broadcasting and my desire to contribute meaningfully to society,” he said. “This station will not only inform and educate but also work closely with security agencies to help curb crimes and criminality in our communities.”
Fasunle emphasized that the station would collaborate with key security outfits including the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps, Ogun State So-Safe Corps, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, among others. According to him, fostering synergy between the media and law enforcement agencies remains critical in tackling insecurity.
He noted that broadcasters across the country often operate under challenging and sometimes risky conditions. As such, he called on the Federal Government to prioritize the safety and protection of media professionals.
“Many broadcasters, including myself, face numerous security challenges in the course of our duties. There is a pressing need for adequate protection to enable us to carry out our constitutional responsibilities without fear,” he stated.
Residents of Abeokuta have expressed optimism that the new radio station will further enrich the city’s vibrant media space, create employment opportunities, and amplify grassroots voices.
With construction progressing steadily at Ijeun Titun, expectations are high that Fasunle’s latest venture will soon hit the airwaves, adding a fresh and dynamic voice to broadcasting in Ogun State.
