A new chapter has formally opened for the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro with the appointment of Dr. Mukail Aremu Akinde as Acting Vice-Chancellor, following the institution’s recent transition from polytechnic to university status.
Dr. Akinde, who until now served as Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, was among the principal officers who received official letters of appointment from the Federal Ministry of Education. The letters, dated February 9, 2026, confirm the new leadership structure and nomenclature of the institution, now fully recognized as a federal university of technology.
The formal presentation of the letters marks a significant milestone in the transformation process that began in May 2025, when the Federal Government approved the conversion of the polytechnic into a university of technology. The move is widely seen as part of broader efforts to strengthen technological education, research capacity, and innovation-driven development across the country.
According to the appointments announced, Dr Mukail Aremu Akinde will serve as Acting Vice-Chancellor, providing strategic leadership as the university consolidates its new status. Other principal officers include Mrs. Babatola Aderonke Folasade as Registrar, Dr. Akinola Moruf Abiodun as Bursar, and Dr. Atulomah Bola Christy as University Librarian.
Institutional sources described the issuance of the appointment letters as a formal confirmation of the university’s full recognition and operational readiness under its new designation.
