The Ogun State Police Command has filed a six-count criminal charge against a popular social media blogger, Adetoun Onajobi, widely known online as @justadetoun, over alleged cyberbullying, false publications, and obstruction of police investigations.
The charges, which are now pending before the Federal High Court, Abeokuta Division, stem from allegations that the blogger used various internet-enabled platforms to disseminate false accusations against the Ogun State Government and to repeatedly bully the Governor of Ogun State, actions the police say contravene provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act.
According to a press statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the controversy escalated after the Command invited Onajobi on January 2, 2026, to respond to complaints arising from her online activities.
Rather than honour the invitation, the suspect, through her lawyer, reportedly informed the police that she was medically indisposed and unable to attend the interview. The letter was accompanied by a medical report allegedly issued by a licensed medical doctor, outlining several health challenges said to have required urgent care.
However, the police disclosed that discreet investigations later uncovered that the medical report was false. The doctor who purportedly issued the report was arrested and, during interrogation, allegedly confessed that the document was fabricated at the instruction of Adetoun Onajobi. The confession further revealed that the arrangement was made during a phone conversation involving the suspect and facilitated by her lawyer.
Following this development, the doctor was arraigned before an Ogun State Magistrates’ Court on charges of conspiracy, uttering a false document, and obstructing the course of justice.
Meanwhile, the police say Adetoun Onajobi has since remained evasive, repeatedly ignoring invitations extended to her and effectively going underground. Her current whereabouts, according to the Command, are unknown.
“The Ogun State Police Command remains resolute in its duty to tackle all forms of crime—violent, white-collar, or digital—while fully respecting the constitutional rights of all persons,” the statement read. “Freedom of speech is constitutionally guaranteed, but it does not provide immunity for criminal conduct.”
The Command also revealed that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals allegedly connected to the dissemination of false information aimed at obstructing police investigations. It added that all lawful means would be deployed to apprehend Onajobi and ensure her appearance in court to answer the charges already filed against her.

The case has sparked renewed public debate on the boundaries between free speech and cybercrime in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving digital space, as well as the growing scrutiny of social media influencers and bloggers under the law.
