In December 2025, President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the committee to resolve disputes within the APC ahead of the 2027 general election.
The committee, chaired by Mai Mala Buni, governor of Yobe, held its inaugural meeting on Monday in Abuja.
The meeting marked the formal take-off of the committee established to resolve unresolved disagreements and anticipate emerging threats to party cohesion.
A statement issued on Tuesday by Mamman Mohammed, director general of press and media affairs to the Yobe governor, said the meeting focused on mapping out strategies to address festering conflicts and enhance mobilisation across the party.
Mohammed said the committee was constituted to deploy experience and influence in managing internal tensions within the ruling party.
Members of the committee include Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, governor of Kwara; Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo; Hyacinth Alia, governor of Benue; Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna; Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers; Umar Namadi, governor of Jigawa; Bassey Otu, governor of Cross River; Abiodun Oyebanji, governor of Ekiti; and Sheriff Oborevwori, governor of Delta.
Other members include Adamu Aliero, senator; Adegboyega Oyetola, minister of marine and blue economy; Bello Matawalle, minister of state for defence; Yahaya Bello, former governor of Kogi; Ibrahim Masari, senior special assistant to the president on political affairs; and Muiz Banire, senior advocate of Nigeria, serving as secretary.
The statement recalled that at the committee’s inauguration in December, Buni outlined a peace-building agenda anchored on inclusion, dialogue and foresight.
“The committee will adopt strategic engagements and wide consultations to develop an all-encompassing and productive results that will stand the test of time to give both the old and new members, especially aggrieved parties, a sense of belonging and inclusion, with a renewed hope,” Buni said.
He said the committee would not only react to disputes but would also work proactively to prevent avoidable crises within the party.
Buni added that the committee will consider proactive measures and solutions to potential threats in our conflict resolution approach.
He urged members “not to allow personal interest and sentiments to override the general interest and purpose for which this committee is constituted.
