The Ogun State Police Command has appealed to residents of Abeokuta and its environs to remain calm as it conducts a scheduled shooting range training exercise for its officers on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
The exercise will take place at the 35 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Alamala, Abeokuta, as part of the Command’s routine capacity-building programme aimed at enhancing the operational readiness and marksmanship skills of police personnel across the state.
This assurance was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command.
According to the statement, the training is a standard professional exercise designed to improve officers’ efficiency in handling firearms and responding effectively to security challenges. The Command emphasized that the exercise is not connected to any security threat or emergency situation within the state.
Residents, commuters, and business operators within and around the designated training area were advised to steer clear of the marked vicinity for the duration of the exercise, as intermittent sounds of gunfire are expected.
“The public is urged not to panic at the sound of gunshots, as this is strictly a controlled training exercise,” the statement read. “Adequate safety measures have been put in place to ensure that the training is conducted professionally and without any risk to lives or property.”
The Command further appealed for the cooperation and understanding of residents, stressing that compliance with safety instructions would help ensure the smooth and hitch-free conduct of the exercise.
In addition, members of the public were encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or security concerns to the police through the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines. The Ogun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and continuously improving the capacity of its officers to serve the public more effectively.
