The National Economic Council (NEC) has endorsed the release of N100 billion for the comprehensive rehabilitation, reconstruction and upgrading of all training institutions belonging to the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies across the country.
The decision, which now awaits final approval by President Bola Tinubu, was taken at the 154th virtual meeting of NEC on Wednesday.
Council also approved N2.6 billion for consultancy services to drive the project.The funding approval followed the presentation of the report of an ad-hoc committee chaired by Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Mbah.
The committee was constituted on the directive of President Tinubu during the 152nd NEC meeting in October 2025, when he ordered a complete overhaul of the nation’s security training infrastructure.
Governor Mbah told the Council that most police colleges, NSCDC training schools, and other paramilitary institutions are in “deplorable and unacceptable” condition, lacking basic facilities and modern training equipment decades after they were established.
He described the intervention as critical to improving the quality, professionalism and effectiveness of Nigeria’s security personnel.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who presided over the meeting, directed that the final proposal be forwarded immediately to President Tinubu for approval and inclusion in the 2026 budget.
Once approved, the N100 billion fund will be disbursed through the Office of the National Security Adviser in collaboration with the Ministry of Police Affairs and the Budget Office of the Federation.
