A group of former federal lawmakers from Kano State has unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office and Deputy Senate President Senator Barau I. Jibrin to run for the governorship of Kano State in 2027.
The endorsement was made during a courtesy visit to Senator Barau in Abuja on Friday, led by Hon. Umar Sadiq, who represented Kumbotso Federal Constituency from 1979 to 1983.
The group includes ex-lawmakers from the second, third, and fourth republics.According to a statement from Senator Barau's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Malam Ismail Mudashir, the former legislators pledged to mobilize support for both candidacies.
Hon. Sadiq emphasized that this marks the second time the forum has endorsed Barau for governor, highlighting his outstanding performance and describing him as the top member of their group.
"We don't have any candidate other than Senator Barau. Insha Allah, he is the next governor of Kano State," Sadiq said, urging Barau to continue his good works.
Other speakers, including Hon. Idris Isah (Jollof) from Nasarawa Federal Constituency and Hon. Faruk Lawan, who served Bagwai/Shanono for 16 years, praised Barau as a "blessing" to Kano and credited him with sustaining the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
They vowed to ensure victories for both Tinubu and Barau in 2027.The meeting was also attended by Hon. Mustapha Bala Dawaki, Chief of Staff to the APC National Chairman and a forum member.
In response, Senator Barau thanked the group, calling them the "backbone of Kano politics" and framing the effort as a "rescue mission" to address what he described as leadership failures and misrule in the state.
"It is the failure of leadership that pushed Kano State to the path of retrogression. Kano is being run like a private enterprise," Barau said.
"We will not sit idly by and allow things to continue deteriorating. It is not about you or me; it is about our state. Let us all work together to change the situation and utilise all resources for the benefit of all."
