— Community Hails “Education for All” Initiative as Model for Grassroots Development
In a remarkable display of community service and youth leadership, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Idowu Oluwatosin Timothy (ED/24C/1654), has empowered 50 pupils in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State with educational grants totaling ₦1 million.
The initiative—tagged “Education for All”—provided ₦20,000 each to academically outstanding and financially disadvantaged pupils from public primary schools. The award ceremony, held in Okada community, drew community leaders, school administrators, parents, and government representatives who celebrated the gesture as a transformational investment in the future of young learners.
Speaking at the event, the NYSC State Coordinator, Dr. Ben-Ushie Frances Ifeoma, praised Idowu’s dedication, urging other corps members to take their service year seriously by undertaking projects that leave lasting impacts on their host communities.
Also present was the representative of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Chairman, Dr. Austin Eseigbe, who commended the project as “a model worth emulating” and lauded Idowu for demonstrating exceptional commitment to education and community development.
Similarly, the Ovia North East Local Government Chairman, represented by Hon. Faith Omoregie, applauded the initiative, describing it as a significant contribution to the advancement of education within the local government area.
In his address, Idowu explained that the “Education for All” project was borne out of his passion to support young pupils in achieving their full potential. He also highlighted his broader community development efforts under the Nurturing Community Wellness Initiatives, which has executed several health and youth empowerment programs.
These include free medical outreaches to Olaiya Camp, Idiagbon Camp, and Okada Market—benefiting over 600 residents—as well as the distribution of malaria prophylaxis to 300 individuals. Beyond health interventions, he organized an inter-school debate competition and founded a Young Scholars Club for the 50 grant recipients, offering them a year-long mentorship program designed to enhance their academic and personal development.
The event featured cultural performances, goodwill messages, and expressions of gratitude from parents and teachers, who described the project as timely and impactful. Many applauded Idowu’s commitment to transforming lives and setting an inspiring example of youth-driven community service.
The “Education for All” program is part of Idowu Oluwatosin Timothy’s broader mission to give back to the society and promote equitable access to education across Edo State. As the event drew to a close, attendees echoed a shared sentiment—that the initiative would be remembered for years as a beacon of hope and a catalyst for educational upliftment in the community.
