The Ogun State Police Command has moved to calm growing public anxiety in Ajebo community, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area, after a viral social-media video suggested that herdsmen were preparing to launch an attack on the area.
Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, swiftly deployed the Command’s tactical team—led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations)—to conduct a detailed, intelligence-driven assessment of the community and surrounding forests. The operation was carried out in collaboration with Amotekun Corps, So-Safe Corps, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), local hunters and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN).
According to the Police Command, the joint security operatives found no evidence of hostility or planned violence. Instead, they discovered that the Fulani settlers in Ajebo were long-standing residents who have peacefully coexisted with the host community for years. Women and children were sighted in makeshift shelters, but no arms or suspicious materials were found.
Investigators noted that the adult male residents were away in Oyo State for trade activities—consistent with their usual economic routine. A further sweep of the area revealed an extended RUGA settlement reportedly in existence for more than a decade.
To ensure clarity and community trust, the Kabiyesi of the area, Oba Rueben Oluwole—believed to have approved the allocation of land to the settlers—has been invited for further explanation. The Baale of Alapako, where another cluster of huts was found, has also been summoned for a meeting with the Commissioner of Police.
Security teams are maintaining surveillance within the forest zone, located roughly 10 kilometres from the main Ajebo community. Authorities emphasized that this presence is purely precautionary, noting again that the settlers were unarmed and showed no signs of aggression.
The Ogun State Police Command urged residents to remain calm and refrain from circulating unverified information capable of creating panic or tension. The Command reaffirmed its commitment to proactive intelligence gathering and continued cooperation with community stakeholders to ensure safety across the state.
