In a decisive move to reinforce community safety amid rising security concerns nationwide, the Abeokuta North Local Government today convened a high-level security meeting involving all major security stakeholders and community leaders.
The meeting, described as one of the most crucial in recent times, brought together Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Department of State Services (DSS), Amotekun Corps, So-Safe Corps, Community Development Committee (CDC) leaders, selected traditional rulers, and representatives of the Hausa community.
Speaking during the session, stakeholders emphasized the importance of collective vigilance and swift collaboration during a period where security challenges continue to evolve across the country. The discussions centered on assessing the current security landscape and identifying actionable strategies to ensure the safety of all residents.
A major highlight of the meeting was the introduction of a new citizens’ awareness initiative tagged “See Something, Say Something.” The campaign aims to encourage timely reporting of suspicious activities and enhance community-based intelligence. As part of this effort, it was resolved that the phone numbers of all DPOs within the local government area will be made publicly available to enable quick communication and faster response in emergencies.
The gathering also emphasized the importance of maintaining clean and secure surroundings. Community Development Associations (CDAs) were urged to clear bushes around homes and public spaces to reduce potential hideouts for criminal elements and improve general environmental hygiene.
Stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful coexistence, improved surveillance, and stronger ties between residents and security agencies. They expressed optimism that the renewed collaboration would lead to safer neighborhoods and a more secure Abeokuta North.
The meeting concluded with a collective pledge to remain proactive, united, and vigilant in safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens.
