Veteran journalist and broadcaster, Aliyu Abubakar Getso, has passed away in Kano State.
His death was confirmed on Sunday by his daughter, Aisha Getso, in a Facebook post announcing in Hausa that the veteran media professional died around 3:00 am.
The burial, she said, was scheduled for 9:30 am at his residence in Jambulu, Kano.
“To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return! My father (Aliyu Abubakar Getso) has died around 3:00 am on Sunday night.
“His burial will be held around 9:30 am at his house in Jambulu, by Allah’s grace.
“May Allah forgive him and have mercy on him, amen,” she wrote.
Getso was a familiar and respected voice in northern Nigeria’s media landscape, with a career spanning decades across leading radio stations including Kano State Radio Corporation, Freedom Radio, Premier Radio, and Vision FM.
Renowned for his eloquence, professionalism, and commitment to public service broadcasting, he was particularly celebrated for his incisive analysis of domestic and international issues, helping audiences make sense of complex news developments.
His death has been described as a major loss to the Nigerian media community, especially in the North, where he inspired a generation of broadcasters and journalists.
He is survived by three wives, children, and grandchildren.
