Suspected IPOB Gunmen Clash with Vigilantes in Anambra, One K!lled

A suspected member of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), was killed in a fierce gun battle with local vigilantes in Ezinifite community, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Monday morning.


According to sources, the incident unfolded around 7:30 a.m. when over 15 armed men, believed to have crossed from neighbouring Imo State via the Amalum Village boundary, stormed the area.


The Agunechamba Vigilante Group of Ezinifite reported that the gunmen appeared intent on invading and attacking the community. 


The vigilantes swiftly engaged them in a heavy exchange of gunfire.One assailant was neutralised during the confrontation, while the others escaped into nearby bushes, reportedly sustaining gunshot wounds. 


A pump-action rifle was recovered from the deceased suspect, whose body was subsequently deposited at the Ezinifite mortuary.


Police tactical teams were promptly deployed to the scene but arrived after the attackers had fled. 


The area has been cordoned off, with intensive bush combing operations now underway in collaboration with local vigilantes to track down the fleeing suspects.


Sources commended the vigilance group for their quick response and alertness, urging residents to remain calm and provide security agencies with credible information to eliminate criminal elements from the region.
