ABEOKUTA — It was a lively and heartwarming atmosphere at Kampala section of Itoku Market in Abeokuta as the Member representing Abeokuta South State Constituency II in the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Igbalaye Wasiu Ayodele (IWA), paid an unscheduled visit to the market women on Wednesday.
During the visit, the lawmaker, fondly called IWA, donated cash gifts to the traders and promised to repair the non-functional borehole in the market to ease their daily operations and improve hygiene.
Addressing the market leaders, including the Iyaloja of Itoku Market, Hon. Igbalaye said the visit was aimed at engaging directly with the market women to understand their challenges, needs, and priorities.
“I came here today not just to identify with you but to listen to your concerns and see where government can step in to make life better for you. Market women play a key role in our economy, and your welfare will always remain a priority,” he stated.
The lawmaker reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to quality representation and grassroots development, emphasizing that his administration would continue to deliver the dividends of democracy to every corner of Abeokuta South Constituency II.
“We will not relent in supporting initiatives that empower women and promote local businesses. You are the strength of our community, and I will keep working to create an environment where you can thrive,” IWA assured.
In a show of solidarity, Hon. Babatunde Tella and Hon. Yusuf Amosun, who accompanied IWA on the visit, also made cash donations to support the market women and commended IWA’s people-oriented leadership style.
The Iyaloja of Itoku Market, on behalf of the traders, expressed deep appreciation to Hon. Igbalaye for his thoughtful gesture, describing him as a true representative of the people whose actions reflect empathy and dedication to public service.
“We are very grateful to Hon. Igbalaye for always remembering us. His support and promise to fix our borehole mean a lot. May God continue to bless him and grant him more strength to serve,” she said.
The visit, which attracted cheers from traders and residents, further strengthened the bond between the lawmaker and his constituents, reflecting IWA’s consistent approach of direct community engagement and responsive leadership.
