A total of 44 out of 252 students of Chrisland University, Abeokuta, were awarded with first class honours degree at the institution’s 7th convocation ceremony on Wednesday.
Prof. Oyedunni Sola-Arulogun, the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the school made this known during the ceremony.
She added that 133 and 63 students bagged second class upper honour and second class lower division respectively, while 12 graduated with third class.
Sola-Arulogun appreciated the governing council of the university for its steadfast commitment, guidance and growth.
She also thanked the state government while also acknowledging the support of the graduating students.
“To our esteemed graduands, you know success is not given, it is earned through consistency and courage. I salute your dedication and commitment.
“I encourage you to be good leaders in the outside world and also good ambassadors of this great school,” she said.
The VC, however, listed some major challenges facing the institution to include power supply, internet connectivity, student accommodation and infrastructure among others.
Also speaking, Dr Winifred Awosika, Chancellor of the school, dedicated the growth and achievement of the school to God, while acknowledging its commitment to academic excellence, discipline and moral integrity.
She commended the board of trustees, governing council, VC, past VC, staff and students for their unwavering support and dedication.
Awosika highlighted the university’s accomplishments to include steady enrolment of students from “just 57 to over 1,700”, excellence in all professional examinations, high quality faculty and fostering a culture of well-being amongst staff and students.
She congratulated the students for their passion and resilience in their academic journey.
In his keynote lecture, Amofin Beulah Adeoye tasked the graduating students to embrace creativity, self-disclipline and reslilience as they transition into the next phase of their lives.
He emphasised that the modern world rewards innovation, not imitation, urging them to create opportunities rather than wait for them.
“The world you’re entering rewards innovation, not imitation. Don’t wait for opportunities, create them; the knowledge you gained here should empower you to solve real world problems, build communities and inspire others to dream bigger,” he said.
Mr Israel Popoola, the best graduating student of the Department of Criminology and Security Studies with a CGPA of 4.95, was recognised as the 2025 Valedictorian of the university.
Popoola attributed his success to hard work, consistency, divine grace, and the unrelenting support of his lecturers, family, and friends.(NAN)
