The Bauchi State Police Command has sealed Hamdala Special Medicine Store in the Yelwa area of Bauchi metropolis over alleged unprofessional conduct, which reportedly led to severe bodily harm to a teenage patient.
This was contained in a press release issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Ahmed Wakil.
Wakil explained that the command acted on a letter of complaint from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management against one Ibrahim, the Chief Executive Officer of the store, over negligence and degrading treatment of a patient.
He said, “the petition indicated that our office received a complaint against Ibrahim, also known as ‘Degree,’ who operates a pharmaceutical store in the Yelwa area of Bauchi. A 15-year-old female patient, Maryam Magaji, was taken to the medicine store for treatment, where she was administered an injection for malaria which subsequently led to significant bodily harm.
“She was later evacuated to a hospital, where medical professionals confirmed that her injuries were a direct consequence of the administered injection.”
The PPRO revealed that the police responded immediately, arresting the suspect identified as 27-year-old Ibrahim Hassan Mamman, a resident of Isa Yuguda Guest House, Bauchi.
“During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the allegations. He narrated that on July 1, 2025, the victim’s brother brought her to his store with complaints of malaria and typhoid symptoms. Despite prescribing tablets, the brother insisted on injections. The suspect thereafter administered an 80mg intramuscular injection for three days. Two weeks later, the victim’s condition worsened, and she was admitted to Bayara Hospital,” the statement read.
Preliminary investigations, according to Wakil, showed that the suspect is neither a licensed pharmacist nor a qualified medical doctor.
He also disclosed that expired drugs, including Tuxil suspensions manufactured by Fidson Healthcare Plc and Tuyil Pharmaceuticals Ltd., were recovered from the store.
