Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), in collaboration with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US Justice Department, has seized a 2019 Lamborghini Urus from the residence of popular dancehall musician Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., known as Shatta Wale.
The operation, conducted at his home in Trassaco Valley Phase 1, Accra, follows a 2023 request from US authorities linking the luxury vehicle to a convicted criminal’s financial empire.
According to a press release by EOCO’s acting Executive Director, Raymond Archer, the seizure was executed in June 2025 by EOCO’s Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU).
The Lamborghini was identified as part of the proceeds of a criminal enterprise led by Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is serving an 86-month sentence in the US for financial crimes and owes $4.74 million in restitution.
“The operation led to the discovery and seizure of a 2019 Lamborghini Urus tied to Amuah’s criminal proceeds,” the statement read.
EOCO clarified that Shatta Wale voluntarily surrendered the vehicle to avoid a public scene, following his plea to protect his brand.
“Nii Armah requested that the seizure not be publicized, as the vehicle is central to his image, and a public removal could harm his reputation,” the statement noted.
“Officers acted professionally, allowing him to surrender the vehicle, which is now in EOCO’s possession.”
The operation was conducted with armed SARU officers, a standard safety protocol, and proceeded without incident.
EOCO further disclosed that Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of the National Signal Bureau (NSB) have been named persons of interest and will be invited for questioning as investigations continue.
The Lamborghini is slated for repatriation to the US under a forthcoming Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) request from the FBI and Justice Department to fulfill part of Amuah’s restitution.
EOCO emphasized its ongoing cooperation with US authorities, noting that a final investigation report may be shared with the FBI and Justice Department.
