Lagos, Nigeria – In a decisive move signaling the commitment of the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to upholding party discipline and integrity, Hon. Segun Adewale, popularly known as "Aeroland," has been suspended for a period of 30 months. This resolution follows a formal petition submitted by the executive members of Alimosho Local Government Area PDP, detailing multiple violations of the party's constitution.
The petition, documented on July 22 and July 27, 2024, accused Hon. Adewale of misconduct and failure to uphold the values espoused by the party. The Lagos PDP Disciplinary Committee undertook a thorough review of the case, meticulously examining evidence and testimonies as outlined in Sections 57, 58, and 59 of the PDP Constitution (amended in 2017).
Despite being notified of the proceedings through both WhatsApp and phone communications, Hon. Adewale declined the opportunity to defend himself before the committee, instructing the committee chairman to cease all contact with him.
Following a comprehensive investigation, the committee concluded that Hon. Adewale had violated several key provisions of the PDP Constitution, specifically Section 58(1) a, b, f, g, and h. The findings were supported by substantial evidence, including documentary materials, audio recordings, and oral testimonies.
In light of these findings, the disciplinary committee resolved to impose significant sanctions on Hon. Adewale. Effective immediately, he has been suspended from the Lagos PDP for 30 months and must comply with specific conditions within the first six months of his suspension.
These conditions require him to:
1. Withdraw all court cases instituted against PDP elders, executives, and members.
2. Write and submit formal letters of apology to:
- His Ward M1 Executive
- The Alimosho LGA Executive
- The Lagos State PDP Executive
- All individuals he previously sued.
Failure to meet these conditions within the stipulated six-month timeframe will result in the forfeiture of his right to resume membership in the PDP after the suspension period.
The committee's resolution received unanimous approval from its members, including Elder Kayode Ogunbiyi, Hon. Arobiewe, Dr. Amb. Adedipe Dauda Ewenla, Hon. Dr. Seye Dairo, Barr. Abayomi Noah Medemaku (Secretary), and Hon. Tai Benedict (Chairman).
Public Clarification on Hon. Adewale’s Status
In an official statement issued to clarify the current status of Hon. Adewale, Dr. Adedipe Dauda Ewenla, a member of the Lagos PDP Disciplinary Committee and Southwest PDP Ex-officio, emphasized that Hon. Adewale has misrepresented his affiliation with the party. He has repeatedly attempted to deceive the public by continuing to claim PDP membership despite his suspension.
"As of today, Hon. Adewale has completed 11 months of his 30-month suspension without complying with any of the directives issued by the Disciplinary Committee," Ewenla stated. "His actions demonstrate a clear lack of intent to return to the PDP, thereby resulting in his automatic expulsion."
The statement also noted that Hon. Adewale's political group, known as A.W.A.K.E, has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), further distancing him from the PDP. This defection was marked by the removal of PDP flags and insignias from locations associated with Adewale, as documented through video evidence. Despite an initial acceptance by the ADC, he was rejected less than a month later, reflecting a troubling pattern of behavior and relationships with political parties.
Ewenla warned that Adewale's continued misrepresentation and public claims to PDP affiliation undermine the integrity of the party. "His presence only brings division and disruption," he asserted, emphasizing that the Lagos PDP has enjoyed a period of unprecedented peace and successful electoral processes in recent times.
