The Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai have successfully intercepted and recovered 56 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by suspected ISWAP terrorists on the strategic Marte-Dikwa bridge in Borno State.
The explosives were discovered during a clearance operation by troops of 24 Brigade in Dikwa. Acting on credible intelligence, the troops uncovered the devices before they could be detonated, preventing a potentially catastrophic attack.
The IEDs were strategically placed on the bridge to cause mass casualties and disrupt movement along the route, targeting both military and civilian traffic.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was immediately deployed to the location to render the devices safe. The quick intervention by the troops likely prevented a major terrorist attack that could have targeted security forces and humanitarian operations in the region.
The area remains under close surveillance, with clearance and recovery operations still ongoing to ensure the region's safety.
