The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) revealed that troops of Operation Safe Haven rejected a N13.7 million bribe offered by terrorists during an operation along Jos-Sanga Road in Plateau State.
Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed this during a briefing on military operations in Abuja on Thursday, July 17, 2025.
The troops, responding to a distress call about terrorist activities, intercepted two suspects who attempted to bribe them with the sum.Kangye reported that the troops conducted offensive operations and responded to distress calls in Bassa, Barkin Ladi, South Wase, Riyom, and Jos East LGAs of Plateau, as well as Kaura and Sanga LGAs of Kaduna State.
During these operations, they neutralised several extremists, arrested 12 suspects, and rescued three kidnapped victims, recovering weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, and vehicles.
Additionally, on July 9, troops on routine patrol in Barkin Ladi and Jos South LGAs of Plateau, and Wamba and Sanga LGAs of Nasarawa and Kaduna States, arrested seven militias and criminals, recovering weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, and illicit drugs.
In the Jos-Sanga Road incident, troops intercepted a vehicle with bullet holes, arrested the two suspects, and recovered the N13.7 million bribe, along with weapons, ammunition, and the vehicle.
The recovered items are in custody, and investigations are ongoing.Kangye praised the troops’ professionalism and urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.
“The support of all Nigerians, including the media, is crucial to our mission’s success. We will ensure transparency and provide timely updates,”he stated.
