Lagos State Government will implement a revised Electronic Call-Up system for truck movements along the Lekki-Epe corridor starting August 1, 2025, to ease traffic congestion linked to the Dangote Refinery and Lekki Deep Sea Port operations.
The decision was announced in a communiqué following a stakeholders’ meeting at Dangote Oil Refining Limited in Ikoyi, chaired by Transportation Commissioner Oluwaseun Osiyemi. Key attendees included representatives from NUPENG, NARTO, IPMAN, and other industry players.
The updated system addresses past controversies, with the Lekki Estates Residents and Stakeholders Association (LERSA) endorsing it to prevent gridlock akin to Apapa’s traffic issues.
LERSA emphasized that the system will streamline truck movements and restore order.Stakeholders agreed on a reduced call-up fee of N10,000 per truck, down from N12,500, to support logistics, enforcement, and technology. Seven designated truck parks with paved floors, CCTV, toilets, and drivers’ lodges have been approved along the corridor.
Key measures include mandatory truck onboarding by August 1, sensitization campaigns by the Ministry of Transportation, and restricted access to only trucks with legitimate business in the Lekki Free Zone. Enforcement begins August 1, with unions committed to ensuring compliance.
The initiative aims to reduce accidents, cut commute times, and mitigate environmental impact, fostering a smoother transport system for Lekki-Epe residents and businesses.
