‘We can’t normalise bloodshed’ – Atiku reacts to killings in North

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has condemned the recent wave of deadly attacks in Borno, Plateau, Kano, and Kebbi States, describing them as a tragic reminder of Nigeria’s worsening security challenges.

 

In a post on his official X handle on Saturday, Atiku expressed deep sorrow over the violent incidents, which reportedly claimed over 50 lives across the affected states.

 

He stressed the urgent need for a people-centered security strategy that prioritizes the sanctity of human life.

 

“The heartbreaking reports from Borno, Plateau, Kano, and Kebbi, where over 50 lives were lost in violent attacks and explosions, are a devastating blow to our collective conscience as a nation,” Atiku stated.

 

He offered his condolences to the bereaved families and affected communities, lamenting that the tragedies were not mere statistics but painful stories of “shattered families and stolen dreams.”

 

“We cannot continue to normalise this scale of bloodshed,” he warned.

 

Atiku also criticised what he termed the continued silence and indifference of authorities in the face of such brutality, particularly citing the situation in Benue and other violence-prone areas.

 

He urged leaders at all levels to rise above political optics and place the welfare and security of citizens at the forefront.

 

“History will not be kind to those who chose power over people,” the former Vice President added.
