In a landmark development in international diplomacy, the United Nations International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC) has signed a comprehensive bilateral inter-institutional cooperation agreement with the International Organization for Economic Development (IOED). This agreement comes as His Excellency, Ambassador Jonathan Ojadah, takes on the dual role of IOED Special Envoy to the African Union (AU).

The signing of this agreement marks a significant step forward for UNIPGC, distinguishing it as a prominent player in international relations by granting it enhanced legal status and extraterritorial jurisdiction. As a result, UNIPGC is now recognized under public international law, thus attaining international legal personality.

This newfound status enables UNIPGC to enter into headquarters agreements with various sovereign states, in line with established international diplomatic conventions. Moreover, UNIPGC's collaboration with IOED grants it the capacity to alert nations that have existing diplomatic agreements with IOED about this significant progression, paving the way for the establishment of official diplomatic missions within these countries. These missions will afford UNIPGC essential immunities and privileges traditionally associated with international diplomatic entities.

The IOED itself boasts a unique diplomatic status, endowed with full diplomatic immunities and privileges, thanks to its extraterritorial rights. Its comprehensive legal personality empowers it with both active and passive legation rights, solidifying its position on the global stage.

Furthermore, as part of its operational mandate, the IOED is developing essential systems for producing official diplomatic and national documents. This includes the issuance of diplomatic passports, biometric national identity cards, secure police credentials, and various sensitive documents aimed at enhancing the security of states and institutions. This capability is crucial for safeguarding populations and ensuring robust governance.

With this agreement, UNIPGC not only enhances its diplomatic clout but also aligns itself with IOED’s mission, which fulfills its 34th directive as entrusted by the United Nations.
