
A suspected improvised explosive device (IED) has exploded in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, resulting in the deaths of four people and injuring 21 others.
The incident occurred on June 27, 2025, along the Katarko-Goniri Road, where the victims were traveling to the Buniyadi market.
The victims were mostly from the Gotala community, which is located near the Sambisa forest, an area known for Boko Haram insurgent activities.
According to Channels Television, the corpses of the four persons k!lled in the explosion had been taken home for burial, while the others are receiving medical treatment at the specialist hospital and Yobe State University Teaching Hospital, Damaturu, respectively.
Relatives of the victims have called on the Yobe State Government to reconstruct the dilapidated road to prevent further insurgent activities and protect the lives of the community members.
There has been no official statement from the military regarding the incident, despite reports of possible additional incidents involving vigilantes and military vehicles.
The Gotala community and the military formation at Goniri are considered to be at high risk due to the insurgent activities in the area.
