Nigerian Police Achieve Major Breakthroughs in Security Operation: 17 Kidnap Victims Rescued, Gun Trafficker Arrested

By Solanke Ayomideji Taiwo

Kaduna, Nigeria — In a series of successful operations, the Nigeria Police Force has made significant headway in combatting crime in Kaduna State, culminating in the rescue of 17 kidnapping victims, the recovery of 21 fabricated AK-47 rifles, and the neutralization of armed robbers.

On April 9, 2025, agents from Kaduna’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser, executed a daring operation that led to the rescue of 17 individuals kidnapped from Sarkin Pawa, Niger State, on March 3. Remarkably, this operation was conducted using a non-kinetic approach, underscoring the Nigeria Police's commitment to intelligence-led policing.

The victims, who ranged in age from 1 to 35 years, were promptly taken to the Police Clinic in Kaduna for medical examinations and were found to be in stable condition. Among the rescued were children, including 15-year-old twins, Samuel and Duza Ezekiel, and 6-year-old Jessy Friday. The ordeal they endured has left emotional scars, but they have been reunited with their families following their harrowing experience.

In a separate operation on the same day, police intercepted a commercial vehicle at the Kawo Central Motor Park in Kaduna, resulting in the discovery of 21 fabricated AK-47 rifles concealed within the vehicle. The suspect, identified as Jamilu Suleiman, a 27-year-old resident of Rafin Guza, was arrested. Preliminary investigations revealed that Suleiman was reportedly acting under the instruction of a union member to deliver the firearms to an unidentified individual within Kaduna.

The police have now launched a comprehensive investigation aimed at dismantling the arms trafficking network believed to be operating in the region. Authorities are working to trace the origins of the firearms and determine the broader implications for regional security.

In a related incident that underscores the ongoing battle against armed robbery in the region, police were alerted about an ongoing robbery at Doggi Farm along the Kaduna–Abuja Expressway. Officers from the Tafa Division responded swiftly, encountering a gang of approximately 30 armed robbers. In the ensuing gun battle, two of the robbers were neutralized, while two others were apprehended and taken to the hospital, where one later died.

The Force Headquarters Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi,  confirmed that the surviving suspect is currently cooperating with investigators to identify any remaining members of the gang. The police are focused on tracking down those who fled the scene in an effort to secure justice for the victims and further deter criminal activity in the area.

These operations reflect a continued commitment by the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of Inspector-General Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun to tackle violent crimes and enhance public safety through strategic collaboration and proactive measures.

This latest series of successes in Kaduna State serves as a hopeful sign in the ongoing fight against crime in Nigeria, reinforcing a message that law enforcement remains vigilant and responsive to threats against public safety.

As the police continue their investigations, communities are being encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities. Efforts to reassure citizens and restore public confidence in security measures are vital as the nation seeks to build a safer environment for its citizens.
